Tidewater Artists & Guests

The Tidewater Art Alliance offers regional artists and member artist an opportunity to highlight their artwork in this juried exhibition. The exhibit will feature work by Mark Miltz, the 2012 Best in Show award winner. Brian Kreydatis, a member of the art faculty at the College of William and Mary will jury the 2014 exhibition.

THE 9th annual Outdoor Sculpture exhibit, juried by Heather Hakimzadeh, Curator of the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art offers $4,000 in awards and travel stipends for participating artists.

Custom to Cutting Edge

Drawing from an abundance of natural resources from the Appalachian region, artists and artisans adapt the heritage of mountain culture by assimilating new ideas and innovating on the old to create dynamic craft and visual art.  The exhibit offers maps, photos of the region, paintings, glass, textiles, ceramics and baskets to showcase the diversity of the region.

Art on A String Exhbit Opens may 2

In conjunction with the Atlantic Coast Kite Festival

In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Atlantic Kite Festival, the Portsmouth Art & Cultural center presents Art on a String. Kites made and collected by George Peters and Melanie Walker of Airworks Studio offer a colorful display of kites in all shapes and sizes presenting their own kites as well as kites drawn from their collection of international and American art kites. George Peters and Melanie Walker have been making art, installations and kites for years from their base in Boulder, CO. Each has their own style and methods of creation and both share their enthusiasm for kites with the international community. Melanie utilizes a giant printer to impress photos into fabric that when complete the kite often takes on the shape of her subject. The artists will be flying some of their kites at the Atlantic Coast Kite Festival in Portsmouth City Park on Sunday, May 4th.

The Chrysler Glass Studio Assistants: MAPPING THE NEXT GENERATION

The Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center (PACC) joins with the TCC Visual Art Center to host glass exhibits and programming that celebrate the studio glass movement in Hampton Roads. The two locations combine to offer work by instructors and past and present art glass studio assistants at the Chrysler Museum of Art Glass Studio and/or completed their studies in glass at the Visual Art Center, Portsmouth. Chrysler Museum of Art Glass Studio Manager Charlotte Potter's work will be featured in "Personal Cartography" at the Visual Art Center. The The works include: Greco-Roman Remnants by Dahlia Bushwick; is this ok by Sean Donlon; EKG of Unconditional Love by Hannah Kirkpatrick
